Last night at Parnell Park, Dublin LGFA celebrated the 40th anniversary of its founding — and we at Robert Emmets CLG were proud to be part of it.
On 6th May 1985, six Robert Emmets members attended the very first meeting of the Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Association: Siobhán Allen, Siobhán Malone, Aisling Keegan, Maria O’Grady, Brendan Dardis, and Bernard Brothwell.
A special recognition was given to Patricia Hickey, who joined Robert Emmets in 1986 and served as the first County Secretary of Dublin LGFA. Patricia was presented with a commemorative certificate by the County Board to mark the occasion.
We are honoured to be the only founding member club still active today—a testament to the dedication and passion of so many past and present.
The night also featured a panel of past players hosted by RTÉ’s Joanne Cantwell. Among them was our own Rhoda Kerins, former Robert Emmets player and chairperson, who captained the first Dublin team to win a Leinster title.
Here’s to the next 40 years of growth, inclusion, and success in Dublin Ladies Football! 🏐🟢🟡
