We’re delighted to share that our very own Hurling Coach, James Kealy, will feature on RTÉ One this Sunday morning at 10.30am on the Irish-language current affairs programme Fóram.
The report explores the challenges facing GAA clubs in Dublin, where rapid population growth has made pitch space increasingly scarce. The piece begins in Clondalkin, showcasing a large club with extensive facilities, before visiting Na Gaeil Óga in Lucan – a relatively new club with no pitch or facilities. It then comes to our own Robert Emmets, where James speaks about the realities of running and growing a small community club in the city.
The segment also highlights the proposed Astroturf development for the local area, which would benefit the wider community as well as Robert Emmets GAA. The discussion raises an important point — that local authorities need to be more flexible in supporting clubs and communities, as the days of the GAA being able to purchase their own grounds are long gone given the soaring cost of land.
Following the report, Pa Daly (Sinn Féin) and Shane Moynihan (Fianna Fáil) will join a discussion on the wider issues facing clubs across the country.
For anyone whose Irish might be a bit rusty (we’re with you there! 😅), it’s still well worth tuning in — it’s a fascinating and important look at the challenges and opportunities facing grassroots GAA in Dublin today.
